What do I do to constantly create suffering for myself and others? And how can I change this?

This weekly daytime drop-in class includes many aspects of Buddhist practice which can be helpful to you whether you wish to practice Buddhism or not. Each week begins with a guided meditation, after which Shakyapada will introduce a particular theme for the week. Discussion and questions are encouraged.

From 9th October for eight weeks we will be exploring excerpts from the Dhammapada. The Dhammapada is one of the most popular and influential of Buddhist texts, around 2,500 years old and containing the essential teachings of the Buddha.

Week by week we'll be exploring the unique insights that arose from the Buddha's Awakening. We'll explore how the thoughts in our busy minds  often prevent us from reaching a place of contentment in our lives and how we can act differently in the world so that we encounter more harmony and peace. This does not entail becoming ‘religious’ but simply making sensible and often obvious changes to the way we live our lives.

As in all our Thursday classes there will be time to relate what we are exploring to our own lives in the 21st Century.

All over 18 are welcome. No need to book - just turn up when you can. There is no charge, but a donation each week of £12 or more would be appreciated (see below)

DONATIONS: York Buddhist Centre has no outside income or support and no one is paid. These classes are given freely in a spirit of friendship. However we do have rent to pay and utilities and other running costs and we could not meet these without the generous support of those who use our centre. So, if you can, we ask you to make a donation when you attend.  We suggest £12 each week but please give more or less according to your means.
