Meeting the Conquerors Sangha Retreat

Meeting the Conquerors Sangha Retreat

Friday 9 September 2022 – Sunday 11 September 2022

This is our regular Autumn residential sangha retreat at the Beamsley Project at the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. It begins with dinner at 6pm on Friday 9th September and ending at 3.00pm on Sunday 11th September.

The Conquerors are four mythical Buddhas who arose some time after the Buddha's passing as a means of keeping the qualities of Shakyamuni alive in the world. They are not real but, mysteriously, not quite unreal either. Four of them represent a specific quality of the historical Buddha which we might like to cultivate: Akshobya represents Mirror-Like Wisdom,  Ratnasambhava Abundance and Generosity, Amitabha Love and Acceptance and Amoghasiddhi Action and Fearlessness. The fifth Jina is a mythical representation of all the Buddha's qualities so represents Enlightenment itself. During this weekend we will be learning about them, through talks, meditation, discussion and workshops and  exploring how  a connection with one or all of them can help us to develop the same qualities.

Cost: There is a booking fee of £75 which covers the cost of the weekend. However there will be an appeal at the end of the retreat and we ask everyone to make a further donation if possible depending on their ability to do so (or you may make a donation when booking if you wish). This donation is entirely optional but we do ask you to be as generous as you are able. A suggested donation is £75 but you may wish to pay more or less than this.

Delicious vegan food and drinks will be provided through the weekend and all bedding is provided (but please bring your own toiletries and towels). You will also be asked to share in some of the tasks necessary to make the retreat work - such as chopping vegetables and clearing and washing up.

Sangha retreats like this one are a perfect way to discover the benefits of going on retreat. They are also a wonderful way of making friends and getting to know others in the York sangha.

Booking is essential: please click the bar below to do this - you may pay online with your debit or credit card - or through PayPal

Book Now: £75

There will be an appeal at the end of the retreat (we suggest £75 or whatever you can afford) but you may pay this now if you wish
