Autumn Sangha Retreat - The Taste of Freedom

Autumn Sangha Retreat - The Taste of Freedom

Friday 29 November – Sunday 1 December

The Buddha said that, just as the great and mighty ocean has but one taste, the taste of salt, the Buddha's Dharma has but one taste - the taste of freedom

During this short residential retreat we will be exploring the Buddhist concept of Freedom, or Liberation. Freedom is the essence of the Buddha's vision. That is freedom from our innate tendency to create suffering for ourselves. Can you imagine a life where you are entirely content? A life where you live in complete happiness? A life where you enjoy each moment for what it is and are never disturbed by the ups and downs of the world? A life where you are fully connected with Life?

This weekend will examine the Buddha's words from the Pali Canon and explore the practices that lead to that liberation. There will be a talk from Shakyapada setting the scene, followed through the weekend with meditation, discussion, ritual and reflection.

Our new retreat venue  - Barmoor - is a stunning Arts and Crafts house standing in a quiet location on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors near

Hutton-le-Hole. It is clean, comfortable and full of character, with central heating and wood burning stoves to keep us warm. It also has a light and airy shrine room area and there are lovely walks in the surrounding area and the charming little village of Hutton-le-Hole.
The other good news is that it is less expensive so we are going to be able to reduce our deposit from £75 down to £55 with a request for dana (donation) at the end of the retreat of around £50 to £100.

This retreat is open to everyone who is a regular sangha member from York and Scarborough.
