Wed PRACTICE night: <br> The Three Characteristics of Existence

Wed PRACTICE night:
The Three Characteristics of Existence

During these three weeks we will be taking a good look at the nature of reality as we typically experience it through the Buddha's teaching of the Three Laksanas - or marks of existence. These are impermanence, insubstantiality and unsatisfactoriness. This might sound a little dry or technical but, actually, these three marks cut to the root of our suffering as human beings and are key teachings in the Buddhist Tradition.

Week One: Mark will explore Impermanence (anicca). We'll see that, in reality, life is a flow, nothing is fixed and unchanging. This sounds obvious in one way but it is something that, on another level, we deny completely.

Week Two: Shakyapada will explore the Insubstantiality of all things - including ourselves (anatta). Really understanding this (along with anicca and dukkha) can lead us to a state of complete contentment with life, and ultimately to seeing Reality, as it really is.

Week Three: Susan will be looking at the Unsatisfactoriness of life (dukkha). And we'll see through not really appreciating impermanence and insubstantiality, we create constant suffering or dissatisfaction in our lives. These three crucial insights point the way to a more meaningful engagement with our lives, and offer material for deep reflection and progress along the spiritual path.

All over 18 welcome. Newcomers are also very welcome too.

No need to book, just turn up.

The evening is freely given but we would very much appreciate a donation of £6-£12, or whatever you can give, to help cover our costs. York Buddhist Centre depends for its existence almost entirely on donations from those who use it. No one is paid at YBC. Please support us if you can.
