PRACTICE NIGHT:
Mitra Ceremony
Wednesday 15 January 2025 7pm – 9:15pm
Becoming a mitra (which means "friend") is a significant step someone's spiritual life. It is a declaration that they consider themselves to be a Buddhist within the context of the Triratna Buddhist Community. It is also a commitment to deepening their practice. This is an important occasion both for the new mitras and those who witness them as they make their commitment to their practice.
This evening two of our community - Astrid and Peter - are making a formal commitment to their practice in the midst of an evening of joy, love and celebration.
All are welcome and it is traditional to offer small gifts and cards to each of them at the end of the ceremony, if you wish.
In the first half there will be a short meditation followed by a short talk, a tea break and then the ceremony in the second half. The evening will begin at 6.30 for 7.00pm with refreshments. All are welcome.
Open to all over 18.
DONATIONS: If you can, we ask you to make a donation each week when you attend. We suggest £8 to £12 each week but please give what you can. York Buddhist Centre has no outside income or support and no one is paid. So these classes are given freely in a spirit of friendship. However it costs over £3500 per month to keep York Buddhist Centre open so we depend on the generous support of those who use our centre.
