Day Retreat: Living in the Divine Abodes
Sunday 14 June 10:30am – 4:30pm
Can you imagine how wonderful life would be if we were not constantly blown around and upset by life and other people?
On this Day Retreat Shakyapada will explore, through teaching, discussion and meditation, the Buddhist practices of Love, Compassion, sympathetic Joy and Equanimity or metta, karuna, mudita and uppekkha. These are four sublime states of mind that help us meet the world (and other people!) with calmness, peace and positive states of mind. Regular practice of all four is said to lead to Enlightenment.
We will begin at 10.00am with an opportunity to have a drink and meet others on this day retreat. The retreat proper will begin promptly at 10.30. After that, the day will include guided meditations based on the traditional Divine Abodes (Brahma Viharas) of Love, Compassion, sympathetic Joy and Equanimity. There will be some teaching and discussion about each one and an opportunity to discuss any aspects of your own experience during the day: particularly any questions, difficulties or concerns that you may have.
Please bring a photo of a good friend - someone you care deeply about - with you on the day (a good friend rather than a sexual partner or family member please) as you will need to refer to this photo frequently through the day.
Please also bring vegan lunch to share (We are a sustainable Buddhist Centre and edible animal products are not allowed in the centre)
Cost: There is a registration fee of £10 for this day retreat, and we ask you to make a donation of £15 to £20 (or more, or less, whatever you can manage) when booking or on the day.
We are a charity, no one gets paid, and our income comes solely from your donations. Please give whatever seems appropriate and affordable..
