Day Retreat: <br> The Buddha's Parinirvana

Day Retreat:
The Buddha's Parinirvana

Sunday 15 February 10:30am – 4:30pm

We warmly invite you to join us for Parinirvana Day Festival, which marks the end of the Buddha's physical life and his realisation of full and perfect Enlightenment. This is full-day event with meditation, reflection and a three-fold puja.

Celebrating Buddhist festivals like this is important. They bring the Buddha into our lives, and immerse us in the stories and myths of our tradition. They also gather us together as a sangha, creating the collective inspiration that only comes from practicing in large numbers.

The programme will be as follows:

Doors open at 10.00 am for hot drinks and gathering.

The morning session will begin at 10.30 prompt with a meditation followed by a talk exploring the Buddha's final week and his Parinirvana.

After a tea break we will reflect on the truth of impermanence and how, by fully acknowledging this truth, we can benefit our own life.

There will be a break for a shared lunch at around 1.00pm. Please bring vegan food to share.

The afternoon session will begin around 2.00 pm and will begin with a poem about life and death followed by an opportunity to talk about our own attitudes, fears and hopes around death.

The afternoon will continue with a special metta bhāvanā for those who have died in the last year and end with a Three-Fold Puja.

Please bring photos of any loved ones who have died in the last year, to place on the shrine.
