Enjoying the Benefits of a More Ethical Life

An Introduction for newcomers, a refresher for regulars

We might not immediately think of ethics as something delightful and enjoyable. We're perhaps more likely to associate ethics withy restraint, even with puritanism and gloom. But ethical practice is not about limiting ourselves or our enjoyment of life. In fact, quite the opposite. Practising Buddhist ethics  leads to a richer and more fulfilling life. Taking care of our interactions with the world and  others allows us to become truly authentic and actually creates more happiness in our lives.

In Buddhist Ethics there is no good or bad, right or wrong - just skilful or unskilful actions.  There is no guilt or blame - just a recognition of how we are responding to the world around us.

During these six weeks we will explore the Buddha's Five Precepts and see how they can help us create a richer, more contented and fulfilling life in the months and years to come. It is helpful to attend all six weeks but if this is not possible please come when you can.

The programme is as follows:

Week One, 27th September: Karma and the Fruits of Karma - how you can influence your future life

Week Two, 4th October: Mindful Connection with Others - reaping the benefits of kindness

Week Three, 11th October: Cultivating a Creative Mind - the positive benefits of generosity

Week Four, 18th October: Going Beyond Guilt - deepening your sense of contentment with life

Week Five, 25th October: Speaking like an Awakened Being - becoming more honest and authentic

Week Six, 1st November: Beyond Ethics - living your best life

Everyone over 18 is welcome - no need to book, just turn up

York Buddhist Centre has no outside income or support and no one is paid. These classes are given  freely in a spirit of friendship. However we do have rent and other running costs to pay and we cannot meet these without the generous support of those who use our centre.

So we ask you to please make a donation each week when you attend. This donation is entirely optional but it will help us enormously. We suggest £8 to £12 each week but please give more or less according to your means.
