Wednesday PRACTICE NIGHT
The Three Refuges: Buddha, Dharma, Sangha

Each week when we meet we perform a short ritual acknowledging the Three Jewels of Buddhism. These are the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. We call these the Three Jewels because they are all very precious to us in our lives. And we begin our meetings by reminding ourselves how important they are in our lives.

The Buddha was a human being who discovered a true and lasting path to happiness. The Dharma is his teaching about how we too can achieve the same state of fulfilment and contentment in our lives. The Sangha is the community of Buddhists through the years who have passed down the teaching.

But who exactly is the Buddha? And what is the Dharma? What is the Sangha? And why are they called Refuges?

Each week from 23rd April we will be exploring each of these jewels in turn, looking at the interesting life of the Buddha, how his practical teachings still have the power to change lives and the enduring importance of community and friendship.

Open to all over 18. You don't need to be a Buddhist or even wish to be one. Just come along and find out what Buddhism is about.

DONATIONS: York Buddhist Centre has no outside income or support and no one is paid. These classes are given freely in a spirit of friendship. However we do have rent to pay and utilities and other running costs and we could not meet these without the generous support of those who use our centre. So, if you can, we ask you to make a donation either when you book or each week when you attend.  We suggest £10 each week but please give more or less according to your means.
