Finding Peace in a Turbulent World - An Introduction to Meditation and Buddhism

Finding Peace in a Turbulent World - An Introduction to Meditation and Buddhism

In-Person at York Buddhist Centre, 38 Gillygate, YO31 7EQ

Our experience of the world is forever changing. Things can go well, and this makes us happy, joyful and content. But sometimes things can go less well and this can lead to sadness, disappointment, frustration and even anger.

The Buddha called these ups and downs of life The Worldly Winds. And he taught a way of dealing with them that can lead to true peace and contentment - whatever might befall us in our lives.

In this six-week course Shakyapada and her team will introduce you to the basics of the Buddha's teaching:

  • How the Worldly Winds blow us around and cause us pain.
  • How to change our experience of the world
  • Natural ethics and how they can help us do this
  • How things are not as they seem - and why it is important to understand this

We’ll be looking at practical ways to cultivate true peace, so that you can be happier, kinder and more joyful –  even in a world that is often challenging and difficult to navigate. We’ll also be learning two meditation practices – one to help us to calm our minds and the second to help us cultivate more kindness for ourselves and others.

Everyone gets a free online course guide, and through workshops, talks and discussions we’ll see how we can all engage with the world more positively.

Open to all those over 18. The course is freely given but (if you are able) we would appreciate a donation each week of between £8 to £12 to help cover our costs. (No one in our centre is paid. Everything we do is freely given as an act of generosity)

Book Now: £10

There is a Booking Fee but the course itself is free. However we ask those who can to consider a small donation each week of between £8 and £12 (or whatever you can afford) to cover our costs.
