Our Teacher’s Teachers - Introduction 26th June
Week One - Wed 23rd June
The Triratna Refuge Tree
This Week Shakyapada begins our new theme by introducing the image of the Triratna Refuge Tree. This is a visual representation of our spiritual lineage as Triratna Buddhists - a kind of family tree made up of beautiful lotus flowers.
In the centre is the Buddha. On another flower we find the Buddha’s disciples. There are mythical Buddha’s and Bodhisattvas, and even Enlightenment itself is represented by Vajrasattva and the five Conquerors right at the top of the tree. Closer to us on the lowest lotus flower - and therefore very accessible - we find Sangharakshita and his eight teachers.
Over the coming week we will be getting to know each of these eight spiritually advanced teachers, looking at their lives and exploring their influence on Sangharakshita and ultimately on Triratna and our own practice. But in Week One we are taking a closer look at the Refuge Tree from which they emerge.
In Week to to week nine there will be contributions from Kate, Joan, Mark, Joanne and Lynn.
