Mitra Ceremony

Mitra Ceremony

Wednesday 15 February 2023 7pm – 9:15pm

Becoming a mitra (a Sanskrit word meaning "friend") is a significant step someone's spiritual life. It is a declaration that they consider themselves to be a Buddhist within the context of the Triratna Buddhist Community. It is also a commitment to deepening their practice.. This is a significant occasion both for the new mitras and those who witness them as they become mitras.

This evening one of our community - Dave - will take part in a ceremony to mark his passage into a deepening of his spiritual life. Mitra ceremonies are very joyful and moving occasions filled with a sense of loving-kindness. The evening will begin with tea and cake at 6.30 with the actual programme beginning at 7.00 pm. This will include a short meditation, a talk, a break for refreshment, and then a Three-Fold puja ritual during which Dave will become a mitra. It is customary, for those who wish, to give cards and small gifts to the new mitra at the end of the ceremony.

Everyone is welcome, just turn up.
