An Ever-Widening Circle - The Official Opening of York Buddhist Centre

An Ever-Widening Circle - The Official Opening of York Buddhist Centre

Friday 7 October 2022 – Saturday 8 October 2022

This is a day of celebration, rejoicing, meditation, talks and ritual to fully mark the opening of our wonderful new Buddhist Centre at 17 Walmgate.

At 10.30 am (prompt) we will gather on the pavement outside the Centre where Mahasraddha will lead us in the Tiratana Vandana, after which Taravandana will cut the ribbon across the entrance so that we can enter the Shrine Room and dedicate our new centre together. This ceremony will include a joining together of all present with tri-coloured thread which will be cut at the end to create individual wristbands. The morning will end at about 12.15 after tea, cookies and an opportunity to chat to each other.

There will then be a break until 2pm - an opportunity to sample some of the culinary and other delights of York.

The afternoon will include talks and rejoicings as Shakyapada is officially made Chair of the Centre and Taravandana the Kalyana Mitra (Spiritual Friend) of the Centre. The day will conclude with a seven-fold puja and an opportunity to make offerings to the Three Jewels.

Co-incidentally this day is also a celebration of almost five years of the York sangha which was founded by Shakyapada, Mark, Amalasara and Ley on 15th November 2017 in order to bring the great benefits of the Three Jewels to the people of York.

The day will end around 4.30 pm

Our York community has priority for bookings until 11th September. After that booking is open to all our friends in the Triratna sangha. There is, however a limit of 40 places so please book early.

There is no charge for the day of course but, as always, we would appreciate a donation towards our running costs. The amount is entirely up to you.

May all beings enjoy happiness
And the causes of happiness;
May they be free from suffering
And the causes of suffering;
May they not be separated from the great happiness
Devoid of suffering;
May they dwell in the great equanimity
Free from craving, aversion and delusion.
